Newsletter March 2009
Welcome back Brooke
Hello Everyone! It's great to be back ! For those of you who didn't know, I have been on Maternity Leave for the past 12 months. Jerome & I are proud to announce we have been blessed with a precious little boy, Maurice. Rewarding as it's been staying home with our son, it's time to get back to work and return to my roll of Customer Relations.
Some new and exciting changes have occurred while I've been away, such as MCMs agreement with Emizon to market their amazing Advanced Secure Signalling System.
Amy and I will be in the office available to help with any of your Sales & Account queries. You may contact us via email, sales@mcmelectronics.com.au or telephone, 02 4721 8067. I'm looking forward to speaking to you all again and assisting with your Security needs. Regards, Brooke
.....more news.....
Rod Cowan an independent Contributing Editor for the Security Insider magazine recently wrote..... "At the end of this year, Securitel will be closing its doors and both the major Telco's, Telstra and Optus, plan a complete rollout of fibre by early 2010, with all PSTN services migrated to a Multi-service Access Network with an IP core by the end of 2010. So, by the time ASIAL puts away the party hats and streamers for its 40th birthday, the alarm industry's history will continue on into the world of lP technology"..
Securitel Rates UP 20% We have been advised that Telstra will be increasing their Securitel rates by 20% on 1st April 2009. This is obviously to add pressure to have customers migrate to an alternative technology before the closure in December 2009.
VOIP Problems? In previous Newsletters, MCM warned that the Telco's would roll out fibre to the node and that would mean the closure of up to 4000 telephone exchanges and these being replaced by 5 pairs of Soft Switches (one pair each state). The major migration commencing FY2009.
We can advise that from analysis of our sales of Emizon's dual path IP/GPRS solution, that aside from the obvious Securitel conversions, many of our TCDs have been used in sites where the customer is now using VOIP (voice over IP) or Wireless Broadband causing the Dialler to cease working reliably.
Last rites for the landline See the Sydney Morning Herald article "Last rites for the landline as Optus joins the 'naked DSL' brigade" by Asher Moses ... March 2, 2009 - 8:00AM To view the entire article, click on: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2009/03/02/1235237909055.html

Are diallers already dead ? One Installer has said to me he can no longer offer diallers as an option as his customers are dropping off like flies.... diallers not working on Naked DSL and Virgins wireless broadband. He continued ... We can no longer in good faith offer a product that we believe will cease to function reliably in the near future.
This PSTN / VOIP problem sounds familiar... almost like the Securitel closure except everybody is still in denial...
So to installers and security managers, wake up and look at what is going on... ! This is happening now, check with the monitoring centres.
MCM advised in our last Newsletter to watch out for..... A customer goes onto naked DSL, Wireless Broadband or Cable ...dialler stops working or has high error rates ?? Large increase in the customers phone bill. Larger number of runaway diallers. Increase in the number of missed test calls.
Let me predict ... - Customers will move to VOIP to save large ongoing rental and call costs. - Customers find alarm system doesn't work reliably over VOIP. - Customer realises what they are paying and re-evaluate their priorities. - Customer cancels monitoring...
Is the 1345 game coming to the end ?.. As mentioned previously, there is now a very high probability that the 1345 rebates will be eliminated by virtue of the fact that some diallers may become unreliable over VOIP.
I notice that although our competitors have tried to argue that VOIP would not effect diallers, at least one of our competitors is now agreeing with our statements... and has put pen to paper stating it is going to happen. Does any body disagree that this is a problem... or is this a case of wait see what will happen....
Emizon's Solution.... Emizon's Global 21 system is a dual path Secure Managed Messaging Service that is high security, super competitive and an easy to install solution..
Many of the current offerings are GPRS only with intrinsic reliability issues; Emizon’s Global 21, however, is managed on both wired and wireless paths giving unrivalled resilience.
“Emizon’s Global 21, combined with the skill and expertise of its manufacturing partners is the perfect replacement for Securitel and other communications methods,” says Geoff Girdler, CEO Emizon Group.
The product will be backed by a 24-hour helpdesk, and full support from industry interface leader MCM Electronics for the hardware. The innovative technology is able to provide communications to the panel via Contact ID and MCM Securitel (SIP) protocol, with software that can be updated at the touch of a button.
Interface to panels The interface or TCD connects to virtually any panel on the market via Serial protocol or Contact ID. The MCM TCD has the same connections as MCM's serial Securitel STUs making it a drop in replacement for a STU.
MCMs TCD now with (UDL) Up Load/Download MCMs TCD now has the ability to allow you to connect using your Up Load Download software (UDL). You can connect via IP and do Upload Download to your panel via the TCD even if there is no phone line. Panels such as Nx and Concept 3000/4000 are already tested and working. Others like Tecom and Bosch will be working soon.
Compliance Emizon is currently being tested for compliance to AS/NZ2201.5 2008. Alarm Transmission Systems for Class 2,3,4 and 5. We hope these will be completed in a week or so. Emizon have announced that as well as the Certificate of Compliance, they will put their test results on their website for scrutiny. They have also asked that their availability figures be independently verified and also put on their website for all to see. This will put pressure on others to do the same as I believe this industry needs more transparency and accountability.
