The ADSL F6 is a new style of ADSL filter that is designed to overcome a couple of issues that have been reported with the introduction of our ADSLF Filter/Splitter. The first of these issues concerns non standard telephone leads. On standard telephone leads, the centre two connections of the RJ connector are the telephone line. The Concept panel and older Ness panels are examples of non standard line connections that do not use the centre two connections for the telephone line. The second issue that is overcome by using MCM's new ADSL F6 is the size of the RJ connector itself. This filter is not restricted by the size of the RJ or the pin outs of the RJ connector because it plugs directly into the Mode 3 socket. For more information on either of our ADSL filters, please don't hesitate to contact us at the office on 02 4721 8067 or email James, Glenn or Fiona
Last Wednesday (27/08/03), the ASIAL Alarms Committee had a meeting with representatives from the Australian Communications Authority (ACA) to discuss the concerns the alarm industry has with ADSL and its interference with electronic security systems. One of the outcomes of this meeting was that the ACA representatives agreed to put a warning on the ACA website informing consumers of the interference of ADSL to security systems. MCM will keep you informed on any new developments in this area. To view the ACA website, please click here. Blackout in USA Proves Reliability of Australian Securitel Network On
August 14, 2003 at approximately 16:10 the east coast of the US
experienced a power blackout. The blackout covered the entire
Derived Channel network (called Pulsenet) in the New York city area. The
host computers had backup power and both sides stayed online throughout
the blackout. The hosts in New York City (NYC) are the same type as used by Telstra, and
they run the same software. With 10K+ Stus on this network, this would classify as a worst case scenario for host traffic. In the US, STU AC alarms are delayed for up to 4 hours to eliminate an avalanche of signals during a power blackout. The majority of the messages received were NRs (Non Respondings) and sensors operating due to loss of power. Essentially, what all this means for us in Australia, is that it proves the reliability and redundancy of the configuration of the Securitel Network. Thanks goes to Andy Siu from Telstra for providing this information. Telstra Home Messages 101 MCM has received a few queries lately regarding the introduction of Telstra's new Home Messages 101 service and how it will effect the operation of the alarm panel. We are happy to report that any of MCM's current (or
superseded) panels are not adversely affected by this service as our panels do not use dial tone detection. The expansion of the securitel network is well under way and is almost completed in Victoria. Look out for an announcement from Telstra early in September. MCM would like to congratulate the following people, who were the lucky winners of our Holiday Rewards Competition during August.
These lucky people can now take a break on us and holiday with up to 14 nights free* accommodation at any one of over 450 hotels, resorts and guesthouses throughout Australia. CONGRATULATIONS!! |
