- Caremate

- Securitel Network Upgrade

Important changes to Australian Standard AS2201.5

“Alarm Transmission Systems”

In 2-3 months a new revised version of AS2201.5 “Alarm Transmission Systems” is expected to be released.   This updated standard is a major improvement to the old standard as it takes into consideration newer forms of technology including IP.  The improvements will allow you to compare performances against GPRS, HSDPA, ADSL, Ethernet, Direct line systems, Securitel and dialler systems.  The new standard is easy to understand, easy to classify and has test procedures that is well documented.

The old standard ...well it will be the old one in 2 months, was hard to understand, compare and classify systems for the layman ….in fact any one.

The old system of separate classifications of Transmission delay, Transmission supervision, System availability and Signalling security have been combined in the new standard into 5 classes making it simpler for installers, insurance companies and customers to easily select the most appropriate class of system to be installed.

A big hole in the old standard….

There was a big weakness in the old standard  ...it did not classify or specify how a panel communicated to a alarm transmission interface ( GPRS, STU or Direct line interface) even when in different enclosures …it only classified/specified how the alarm transmission interface communicated to the Monitoring Centre.  This has been rectified in the new standard and will cause some level of discussion.....see examples of possible classifications below.

My interpretation of the new classifications (Class 1-5) using examples of existing products is shown below.

Class 1. ...a dialler reporting once a week.

Class 2. ...a dialler reporting once a day ...this includes GSM backup systems, some IP solutions and GPRS systems that connect to the panel using the dialler interface of the panel.

Class 3. ...Securitel using STU232 or a STUT using MCMs serial interface protocol (with Off Hook Polling disabled) and some older direct line systems.

Class 4. ... Securitel using an RS232 or a STUT (with Off Hook Polling enabled).   Some older direct line systems may meet class 4 although no longer as cost effective  e.g. Earthnet or EDL.

Class 5. ... We will see...

These changes will surely put the cat amongst the pigeons and stop a lot of the misrepresentation currently rife in this industry...

Note…at the moment this standard is in final draft and still subject to change ..although any further change is unlikely.

Caremate

MCM’s Caremate Dect phone system is now on the market as a complete system with Call Centre Services.

Yes the pendant is a waterproof hands free DECT phone.  You can earn income from rental sales of the Caremate. You can continually add to your recurring income by using the Caremate to compliment your relationship with the end user.  If you are interested, send an email to info@caremate.com.au attention Ken.

See also www.caremate.com.au for more information, brochures and videos....

Securitel Upgrade…..

Telstra announced on 31st August 2007 that the part of the DDN data network which is used by the Securitel host computers to communicate with the Scanners in the exchanges and Monitoring Centres (Agencies) will be gradually phased out over the next 18 months or so.   Telstra has the option to use its high speed IP network to now carry this data.

The Securitel Network is used by 10s of thousands of customers as a high security solution communications path.

What classification will Securitel meet in this new Standard?

I expect the Securitel network using MCMs serial STUs will easily meets Class 3 of the new AS2201.5 “Alarm Transmission Systems” and can meet Class 4 with a minor change.

SCS Upgrade…..

MCMs SCS (Securitel Communications Software) …is being upgraded to Windows XP Pro.  The SCS-IP will have a lot of new functions and communications formats available to Monitoring Centres including IP…..  Beta version expected end of Q4 2007. Other enhancements for Tracking and Video will also be available.

MSTU

MCM’s MSTU is now in production.  The MSTU is a multi input STU which can communicate to panels and can communicate via RS232 and TTL but with an added Contact ID receiver onboard, making it compatible with virtually all panels sold in the Australian market. This STU can replace the 232STU, STUT and DSTU making it a truly multipurpose STU.  We expect the MSTU to be in stock within 14 weeks.

NEW - PIRL now with wall/ceiling bracket

MCM’s PIRL now comes with a wall /ceiling bracket at no extra cost.  The lens is also white to help blend with the colour of the plastic.

NEW - Advanced GSM solutions....

MCM’s GSMB interface is becoming the preferred GSM solution for many financial institutions needing GSM backup.  MCMs GSMB interface is unlike many GSM units that can be easily defeated by a simple line fault or a genuine attack from outside the premises.  MCM's GSMB interface has an advanced design to detect and report these attacks or faults.....

NEW - LCD keypads

MCM’s released its ICONLCD 8 and 16 keypads a few months ago and they have had a great uptake  by our customers who find them Ultra modern and stylish.

NEW - PCRx 2 line dialler receiver....

A really cost effective monitoring solution, which is simple to install and configure.

NEW - DSTU - Contact ID to STU interface....

a simple universal interface which can receive Contact ID from any dialler (including Ness, Digiplex, Crow, DSC, Paradox, DMP) and output to a STU for transmission via Securitel.

Until next time....
